Three arrested over 'distressing' Aberdeen disturbance which left man and woman in hospital

Three youngsters have been arrested in connection with a "distressing" disturbance in Aberdeen yesterday.

Police are appealing for mobile phone footage after the incident in Union Terrace at around 8pm, which saw two people needing hospital treatment.

A male, 44, and female, 17, were admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for their injuries.

The man's injuries are serious but are not life-threatening. The female's injuries are not believed to be serious.

Three youngsters - males aged 15 and 17-years-old and a woman aged 20 - have been arrested in connection with the incident and is anticipated they will appear at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Singer Eddi Reader contacted the emergency services after witnessing the disturbance involving "around fifty" young people.

She later tweeted: "Where were the 'city Wardens' in Aberdeen Union terrace when the marauding aggressive youths were marauding? What’s the deal with those guys? Is it only Aberdeen who have them?"

She then lated added: "No sleep and angrier by the second now I know there were 'city wardens' put in place and nowhere to be seen at a place where aggressive youths gather. I counted around fifty or more."

Police Scotland's Detective Inspector David Howieson said: "We have already spoken to a number of people in connection with the incident and I am grateful for their assistance.

"We know that a number of people were in the area at the time and I would specifically ask anyone who may have filmed or photographed the incident to come forward.

"This was a distressing incident for those involved, however incidents of this type are rare in Aberdeen and extra police patrols will be on duty in the city centre over the course of the holiday weekend ensuring people can safely enjoy the area."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police via 101, quoting incident 4587 of April 20, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where anonymity can be maintained.
