Three charged with murder after body found in burning car on Christmas Eve in Bunbartha, in Victoria's north

Three people have been charged with murder after a 19-year-old man was found dead in a burning car in Bunbartha, northern Victoria, on Christmas Eve.

A 38-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman from Shepparton, and a 24-year-old Mooroopna man, were charged with murder by homicide squad detectives.

It comes after Victoria Police appealed for information about the fire and death earlier this week, and made the arrests on Friday morning.

On Wednesday, police announced the body had been identified as a 19-year-old man from Wangaratta.

About 10am on December 24, emergency services received a report of a car fire in Bunbartha, north of Shepparton.

When they arrived at the Loch Garry Road location, the vehicle was still burning.

They extinguished the fire and checked inside the car, where they found the young man's body.

The three accused have been remanded in custody and will appear at the Shepparton Magistrates' Court on January 3.
