Three arrested following report of 'bogus tradesmen' operating in Stockport

Three men have been arrested following a report of "bogus tradesmen" in Stockport.

Police were called to a report of bogus tradesmen causing damage to an address on Nelstrop Road, in Stockport, at around 10.40am this morning (July 31).

Officers have now established that a man in his early 50s recieved a cold call on Thursday from a male claiming to be a builder, offering a quote for roof repair work.

The victim initially accepted a quote of £20 for minor works, but the price for the works quickly raised to £4,000 over the space of a day, police say.

As a result the victim queried the price with the tradesmen.

A registered builder nearby was asked about the work and attended the address today.

He noted the equipment being used was unsafe and the bogus tradesmen were causing damage to the property, police say.

Three men aged 41, 35 and 37 have since been arrested on suspicion of fraud and criminal damage.
