Three arrested as man in hospital after being assaulted - one day after Bury shooting in nearby street

Three people have been arrested after a man was assaulted in Bury - just a day after a shooting on a nearby street that saw an 18-year-old killed.

A man in his 30s is in hospital after being assaulted in Mostyn Avenue, Bury.

Police were called to the street at 10.45pm on Thursday, August 13 to reports of a disturbance.

At 10.45pm on Thursday 13 August 2020, police were called to reports of a disturbance on Mostyn Avenue, Bury.

Officers discovered that the man had been attacked and two vehicles have been damaged.

He was rushed to hospital were he remains, though his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, police have confirmed.

Three people have been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They remain in police custody for questioning.

An investigation is underway.

The assault comes just one day after the shooting of Cole Kershaw earlier this week in nearby Chesham Road.

It is not known if the two incidents are related.

Cole, 18, was shot in the shoulder on Chesham Road, Bury, on Wednesday evening (August 12) - tragically caught in the crossfire of two groups of men.

He was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, but sadly later died.

Police say they believe Cole was not the 'intended target' of the shooting.

It is believed he was a passenger in one of two vehicles which were involved in a chase away from Bury town centre.

When the cars came to a halt in Chesham Road, Cole climbed out of the Ford Mondeo before a man in the other vehicle, a silver-grey BMW, fired two or three shots from a handgun.

One of the bullets hit Cole in the shoulder.

Residents living near the scene said they heard the teenager's pained screams for help.

A murder investigation was launched and several roads in the area remained cordoned off throughout Thursday, with forensic officers working at the scene.

The gunman is still at large. Police today established a new cordon around an alleyway between Harry Whitehead Court and Halvard Avenue.

Tributes have since poured in for the tragic teenager who lost his life.
