Three arrested as man hospitalised following disturbance in Lanarkshire town

Three men are expected to appear in court after a man was hospitalised in East Kilbride yesterday.

The incident happened in the town’s Murray Square just before 3pm on Wednesday (OCtober 19) afternoon, with the victim suffering an “injury to his head”.

Reports on social media spoke of a large police presence and a hive of activity.

One woman posted online: “It was the flats above the florists, must have been at least 10 police vehicles there.

“A guy was getting brought down by four of them around 4.30pm.”

Another wrote: “I seen one guy get put into back of van - two other guys and two lassies were there too.”

A police source told Lanarkshire Live they had been “made aware of a disturbance” in the square around 2.55pm on Wednesday.

He added: “One man suffered an injury to his head and was taken to Hairmyres Hospital.

“Three men, aged 28, 30 and 37, have been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”

Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact police on 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
