Three men were arrested after a brutal street fight outside a shop left two men in hospital.
Emergency services were called to Derby Road in Birkenhead at around 3.20pm on Tuesday to report of a disturbance .
It is believed that an argument broke out at the door of PSV Food and Wine and quickly became physical between three men.
A witness reported seeing a man being punched on the ground before police arrived and managed to break up the fight with the help of members of the public.
Another woman on social media said: "Was relieved when a police van arrived and one copper got out to try and manage the situation.
"Thank god for the men who supported him.
"Two men helped to restrain two of the men involved."
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police confirmed that three men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault , with two of them being taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries.
Their condition is not yet known.
In a statement, the force said: "We were called at 3.20pm today, Tuesday 3 September, following reports of a disturbance outside a shop on Derby Road in Birkenhead.
"We have arrested three men on suspicion of s18 assault. Two of the arrested males have gone to hospital with facial injuries .
"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of what happened."
