Three arrested and firearm recovered after foiled hit attempt in North Dublin

Three men have been arrested and a firearm has been seized after gardai allegedly foiled a hit attempt in north Dublin.

The arrests were made in the Artane area on Saturday afternoon and the men were taken to  Raheny Garda station.

It is understood that the three men were detained following an investigation into an ongoing feud in the area.

It is believed the men may have been plotting a hit when they were arrested.

A spokesman for the gardai confirmed the arrests in a statement to Dublin Live.

He said: "As a result of an intelligence led operation, Gardaí from the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau and Security and Intelligence Section stopped two vehicles in the Artane area.

"Three males aged in their 20s, 40s and 50s were arrested and a firearm was seized.

"All 3 males are detained pursuant to the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act 1939/98 at Dublin Garda Stations.

Speaking today, Detective Chief Superintendent Angela Willis, head of the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau said: "The seizure of firearms and the arrest of those who are prepared to use them to take life is a priority for the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.”

Assistant Commissioner John O’Driscoll of Special Crime Operations added: "I have no doubt that this operation has prevented a firearm being used to take life and enabled the Garda Síochána to keep people safe.”
