Three arrested after security guard attacked at Sainsbury's in Sunderland in social distancing row

Three people have been arrested after a security guard was attacked in a Sunderland supermarket.

The Sainsbury's security guard asked a man to leave for not following social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus crisis before the incident.

The man allegedly scratched, but the security guard returned to the Riverside Road store on April 3 and attacked the guard again, leaving him with injuries to his face and jaw that needed surgery.

Now three people have been arrested in connection to the incident.

A 54-year-old woman and 28-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of unlawful wounding.

A second man, aged 30, has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said all three have been released under investigation.
