Three arrested after PSNI deploy stinger in cross-border pursuit

Three men were arrested by police following a pursuit in which police deployed a stinger device.

Officers were alerted to a theft in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone on Sunday and subsequently that the suspects had fled across the border in a car.

During a pursuit by An Garda Siochana the occupants returned over the border where police deployed a stinger device to stop the vehicle.

Sharing images of the vehicle the occupants were in, police said they arrested three men who were all 'intoxicated' and the suspected driver is facing court proceedings for a number of driving offences.

A PSNI Dungannon and South Tyrone officer posted on social media: "Once stung, twice shy! Let's hope so.

"The occupants of this car made off across the border after a theft in Aughnacloy. They didn't get too far before being pursued by our colleagues in An Garda Siochana. Lucky for us they came back into our area where we were ready and waiting.

"After a carefully coordinated effort, Dungannon LPT, assisted by Armagh NPT and TSG call signs, got the car stopped.

"It was the two Dungannon Sergeants who get all the plaudits as they successfully stung the vehicle just outside Aughnacloy. Great effort boys!"

Police say the three males then made off on foot. Three suspects were later arrested. Officers say all three suspects were 'intoxicated'.

The alleged driver was also arrested for a number of driving offences and was due before the courts today.
