Three arrested after police walk in on armed robbery

Three people have been arrested after police stumbled upon an attempted armed robbery.

Officers had been on patrol in Islington, at around 8.30pm on Wednesday, March 1, when they heard a disturbance. The noise was coming from a nearby property on Kempston Street.

Police carried out enquiries inside the address and found that an attempted armed robbery had taken place. They also found an imitation firearm at the scene.

Two men and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences. A 48-year-old man, from Anfield, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

A 40-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man, both from Everton, were arrested on suspicion of robbery. The three suspects are still in custody and being questioned by police.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "Three people were arrested last night, Wednesday March 1, following an attempted armed robbery in Islington. At around 8.30pm officers were on high visibility foot patrol in the area when they heard a disturbance from a nearby premises on Kempston Street.

"Enquiries were carried out inside the building which revealed that an attempted armed robbery had taken place. An imitation firearm was recovered from the scene
