Three arrested after climate change activists block Glasgow road with ‘blood-soaked’ dingy

Police have arrested three people following a COP26 protest which saw a busy Glasgow road blocked by climate change activists in a rubber dingy.

Extinction Rebellion and AmazonRebellion staged a demonstration outside a branch of banking giant Santander on the city’s St Vincent Street at around 4pm.

A large number of uniformed police officers were in attendance as the COP26 demonstrators sat on the road with a banner reading: “Defund deforestation.”

The words “protect Amazon” and “blood money” have also been spray-painted onto the bank.

Officers soon began making efforts to move the demonstrators on and began cutting through chains attached to the activists.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that three arrests were made.

A statement from the force said: “The COP26 protest at St Vincent Street, Glasgow has now ended and the road is clear.

“Three people have been arrested.”
