Three arrested after car stolen from Trafford Centre

Three people have been arrested after a car was stolen from the Trafford Centre.

Two men were spotted getting out of a Volkswagen Golf - later discovered to be stolen - in the car park of the shopping centre on Thursday night (February 6).

They were seen breaking into a red Ford Fiesta which they then drove away from the scene at around 7.15pm.

A passerby spotted the incident and phoned the police, who were assisted by staff from the Trafford Centre.

Officers deployed a stinger on the road, but the suspects drove up onto the pavement to avoid it.

The offenders then attempted to flee from the stolen Fiesta.

At this point officers drew Taser - though it was not deployed - and the driver was “red dotted” and arrested on Kingsway (A34).

The stolen Golf, which was being driven in tandem, was also stopped by police.

Three suspects from the two cars were arrested.

Officers wrote about the incident on the GMP Stretford Twitter account.

They wrote: “3 males arrested overnight after stealing a vehicle at the Trafford Centre and driving off in it. However officers from the Traffic Unit ‘caught up’ with the vehicle and made arrests.”
