Three areas facing Tier 3 restrictions where Covid infections are falling - full list

Three areas are facing the toughest Tier 3 coronavirus restrictions but are seeing infections go down.

In Nottingham, the rate of new infections fell from 726.6 in the seven days to October 15 to 464.4 in the week to October 22, with 1,546 new cases recorded. But the city is set to enter Tier 3 of restrictions on Thursday.

In Liverpool, which was one of the first areas placed in Tier 3, the rate fell from 620.0 to 520.2, with 2,591 new cases.

In Knowsley, also in Tier 3, the rate fell from 682.1 to 599.9, with 905 new cases.

Nottingham South MP Lilian Greenwood said case rates were falling in the city and rising elsewhere in the county.

She said she had had no formal meetings since Friday and was trying to figure out why talks with the Government were dragging on so long.

She told the Mirror: “I’m a bit in the dark, if I’m brutally honest. I don’t really understand why - it didn’t seem like there was much to discuss when I spoke to them on Friday. So I don’t know what’s changed.”

Nottingham East MP Nadia Whittome said local officials had been “asked to sign last-minute agreements” to enter Tier 3, without knowing what funding they’ll get.

She told the Nottingham Post: “Nottingham City Council has already had to spend more than £30m from its own reserves to cover the cost of the pandemic.

The numbers continue to fall in some of the areas with the highest rates in England.

In Blackburn with Darwen in Lancashire, 1,131 new cases were recorded in the seven days to October 22, the equivalent of 755.5 cases per 100,000 people - the highest rate in England.

This is up from 515.0 cases per 100,000 in the seven days to October 15, the largest weekly increase in the country.

Rossendale, also in Lancashire, has the second highest rate, up from 472.8 to 653.3, with 467 new cases.

Oldham in Greater Manchester is in third place, with its rate rising from 415.0 to 625.4, with 1,483 new cases.

Today's update of the rolling seven-day rate of new cases of Covid-19 for every local authority area in England looks at the seven days to October 22,.

The figures are based on tests carried out in laboratories (pillar one of the Government's testing programme) and in the wider community (pillar two).

The rate is expressed as the number of new cases per 100,000 people.

Data for the most recent four days (October 23-26) has been excluded as it is incomplete and does not reflect the true number of cases.

The list is based on Public Health England data published on October 26 on the Government's coronavirus dashboard.

Here is the list in full. From left to right, it reads: name of local authority; rate of new cases in the seven days to October 22; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 22; rate of new cases in the seven days to October 15; number (in brackets) of new cases recorded in the seven days to October 15.
