Three 'affordable and adaptable' new homes planned for Chopwell

Three houses could be built in a Gateshead village if plans submitted to the council are given the go-ahead.

Peter Udall is behind proposals to build homes on South Road, on land that used to be occupied by a garage block.

In a statement to the council he said the site was "well located" with easy access to public transport, shops and services.

He wrote "There are several shops, a community centre and a primary school within easy walking distance."

Mr Udall argued that the new development would deliver more homes to the borough, some of which could be lived in by families, and contributed to its targets.

He added: "The development would deliver the type of housing sought in the Borough, namely affordable and adaptable housing. The site is in a sustainable location close to public transport, shops and other services."

Gateshead Council will decide whether to grant the application by 18 June.
