Threave Rovers prepare for top of the table clash with Kilsyth Athletic

Threave Rovers will be in for a tough time if the weather plays ball.

The Castle Douglas side are due to travel to West of Scotland League fourth division leaders Kilsyth Athletic on Saturday, although the freezing forecast makes that look unlikely.

Threave are currently 15 points behind Kilsyth, who have two games in hand. When the sides met earlier in the season in Castle Douglas, Kilsyth ran out 3-1 winners.

Rovers boss Vinnie Parker said: “I felt we were massively unlucky.

“They’re good at what they do, they’re winning games week in, week out, sometimes by the odd goal. I can’t foresee them changing their game plan against us – they seem to sit in and press you at a certain period to try to catch you on the break.

“We’ll be working on different game plans during the week and it’ll be a tough game up there.”

However, the biggest threat Threave have to cope with at the moment is the weather.

Saturday’s home game against Harmony Row was called off due to a frozen pitch and Parker fully expects a similar result this weekend.

He said: “I don’t think it’s meant to improve too much. I’d really like to get the game on – I’m becoming obsessed with the BBC weather app!

“I think it’s to get much colder there so I’m not holding out much hope but I’d rather the game was played.

“Last weekend’s game was called off the day before which I didn’t realise was a rule. We were able to inspect the pitch the day before so it allowed us to call it off in plenty of time and make other arrangements.”
