Threave Rovers in gr-eight display ahead of Scottish Cup trip to Nairn County

Threave Rovers performed an eightsome reel ahead of their trip to the Highlands on Saturday.

The Castle Douglas side thumped Lochmaben 8-0 at Maryfield Park, with super sub Ryan Adamson bagging a hat-trick.

And it’s the perfect preparation for the long trip north this weekend to face Nairn County in the preliminary stages of the Scottish Cup.

Gaffer Vinnie Parker said: “Everybody played really well and it was nice to get a clean sheet as well.

“There were a lot of positives from the game plus a decent performance ahead of our Scottish Cup business this weekend and we’d like to get into the next round and what that brings.”

There was no sign of the goal rush to come at the interval on Saturday with Threave only one up thanks to Scott Miligan’s opener.

But Rovers really hit their stride after the break when Kieran McKie doubled the advantage before Phil Middlemiss got the third.

Adamson got numbers four and five after arriving from the bench and Lochmaben must have been fearing the worst when Ryan Coates got the sixth with quarter of an hour still to go.

Callum Williams made it seven before Adamson rounded off the scoring and his hat-trick late on.

It means Threave are full of confidence for the 500 mile round trip this weekend.

Their rivals have yet to kick a ball in anger this season as the start of the Highland League was pushed back to November due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And since things finally got under way, Nairn County have seen their opening two games against Clachancuddin and Keith postponed.

The winner of Saturday’s tie - which will be played to a finish - will make it through to the first round proper of this season’s competition which is due to take place on Boxing Day.
