Threave Rovers boss relishing Scottish Cup trip to Nairn County

Threave Rovers boss Vinnie Parker is relishing the 500-mile round trip to Nairn County next month.

The Castle Douglas side were handed a trip to Moray in the Scottish Cup preliminary round, with the game due to be played on December 12.

And while some people might be baulking at such a long journey, Parker isn’t one of them.

He said: “I love it, it’s what the Scottish Cup is all about and everybody is buzzing for it. The club might not be looking forward to it financially but we’re all looking forward to going up there.

“They played Forres Mechanics on Friday night and won 4-1. A friend of a friend is on the committee on Forres and he sent us a pretty detailed report. I’m hoping to have them watched a couple more times before we play them – obviously it’s not feasible sending anyone up with the way things are at the moment.

“They seem a decent team, their under-20s have won their league the last few years so they have obviously got some good players coming through.

“Anything can happen, especially with the new format at the moment where it’s just one game. You saw that with Scotland the other night. If there’s replays it can be more difficult but anything can happen on the day.”

Threave had no game last weekend as their match with Caledonian Braves at Meadow Park was called off due to heavy rain.

This weekend they are hoping to be back in action when they make the trip to West of Scotland League side Forth Wanderers.

And the Threave boss is hopeful of progressing after they comfortably saw off Ormiston in the previous round.

He said: “I’m always confident in the squad we have, at times the only ones that can beat us is ourself, so I’m confident we can make it through.”
