Threave Rovers boss has no complaints over early Harmony Row call off

Threave Rovers boss Vinnie Parker had no complaints over their game on Saturday being called off early.

The Castle Douglas side were due to head to Harmony Row in the fourth division of the West of Scotland League – but snow and ice saw the game cancelled on Friday afternoon.

And Parker said: “The West has a rule that if adverse weather is forecasted, teams are permitted to inspect the pitch and submit a picture without needing a referee.

“The pictures are of a snow covered pitch and it was supposed to freeze.

“Stranraer’s game at Albion Rovers was off with a 9am pitch inspection on the Saturday morning, so as much as you’re desperate to have it on, sometimes it’s not a bad shout getting a call off for the Friday so you know where you are for the weekend.

“We did a lot of fitness stuff on the Monday and the Wednesday with half an eye on the game being off on a Saturday.

“You can’t get into the arena at Palmerston on a Saturday because it’s fully booked so you’re limited what facilities you can use.

“We arranged a game against Lochar for Monday which meant we could have the weekend off.”

Threave are fourth in the fourth division with five games left and trail St Peter’s – who occupy the final promotion spot – by four points, although their opponents have played two games more.

This weekend Threave host BSC Glasgow, who they thumped 5-1 earlier this season.

Parker said: “It was a bit of a battle, they were pretty physical and not bad up front either.

“They’ll definitely come with a bit of a threat so we’ll have to be on it as usual.

“We’ve got a full squad to pick from, which is obviously pleasing.

“Going into the nitty gritty end of the season it’s good to have everyone available.”
