Threats by Shotts man to smash up partner's car with children on board branded "disgraceful" by sheriff

A Shotts man shoved his mum to the ground and threatened to smash up a car in which four children were passengers.

Jason Wilson’s conduct was branded “disgraceful” at Hamilton Sheriff Court this week.

Wilson, 24, of Bute Crescent, admitted threatening or abusive behaviour in Wyvis Place, Shotts, on September 13.

The court heard his partner had gone to see him at his mother’s house.

A female aged 17 and four children were in the car with her.

Wilson refused to talk to her and instead became abusive. He punched the car’s wing mirror, causing it to smash.

His mother left her flat to try to calm the situation, but Wilson swore at her and she ended up on the ground.

He then opened the driver’s door and warned his partner he would “smash the motor up”.

However, she managed to call the police and Wilson walked away.

Defence agent Eddie Robertson admitted his client has “anger management issues”.

Both he and his mother had drunk a “significant” amount of alcohol on the day in question.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen told bakery worker Wilson: “This was a disgraceful way to behave.

“One option is six months in custody, but with some hesitation I’m prepared to offer you a Community Payback Order.”

Wilson will be under supervision for two years and must attend addiction services. He must also complete 160 hours of unpaid community work within six months.
