Flooding in Chicago and western suburbs following storms, thousands without power

Sun-Times file

Severe storms left thousands without power and parts of Chicago and Cook County flooded Tuesday night.

About 13,555 customers lost power, but that number was down to 3,675 by 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to Commonwealth Edison. It expected most to have power back by 11 a.m.

“Much of the damage was across the western suburbs and into north-central Illinois,” National Weather Service meteorologist Kevin Birk said.

There were reports of flooding in parts of Cook County near North Center, Uptown and underpasses at DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Birk said.
