Thousands to be paid benefits early thanks to Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend

Thousand of people who claim benefits are set to receive them early this year - and it's all thanks to the Queen.

Payments which were set to be given out around June 2 and 3rd will now be processed beforehand in order to avoid any issues over the Queen's Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend.

This June, the Queen will mark 70 years on the throne during the first weekend of June and not only will it mean early payments for some, but it also means a four-day long weekend.

This summer the bank holiday will take place on June 2 and 3rd to mark the special occasion, Buckingham Palace confirmed.

Payments are not usually make during bank holidays therefore they must be made in advanced.

And whilst getting paid earlier may seem like a good thing, you will have to make your money last longer as you’ll have a bigger gap between when you next get paid.

Here we explain how your payments could be affected over the Queen's Jubilee weekend.

When will benefits be paid over the Queen's Jubilee weekend and do I need to do anything to get the early payment?

If the payments follow previous patterns, it is likely you’ll be paid early if your Universal Credit is due on June 2 or June 3.

Universal Credit payments that would normally arrive on this day may hit bank accounts on June 1 instead, reports The Mirror.

You won’t need to do anything if you're due to receive an early payment.

What if I don't get paid?

If you don't get your benefit payment(s) when you expected to, first check double-check the date on your award notice and your bank account.

If you've got the right date, and the money isn't there, you should contact the relevant helpline.

Do keep in mind these are unlikely to be open on bank holidays.
