Thousands to attend WA Anzac dawn service

Up to 10,000 will be invited to Perth's Kings Park for the Anzac Day dawn service. (AAP)

Up to 10,000 West Australians will be invited to gather at Perth's Kings Park for the return of the traditional Anzac Day dawn service.

The RSLWA is promising a return to regular programming on April 25, with the Kings Park event to be followed by a gunfire breakfast at Government House, a march through the CBD and commemorative service at Perth Concert Hall.

A capacity of 10,000 will apply to the ticketed dawn service and attendees will be encouraged to wear face masks as a COVID-19 precaution.

"We want to make sure that they're safe because they are a vulnerable cohort," RSLWA chief executive John McCourt said on Wednesday.

"Social distancing will be in vogue and we encourage people to wear a mask - it's not mandatory but we encourage it, especially when you're coming to and leaving the dawn service on public transport."

Those who can't make it to Kings Park are again being encouraged to commemorate at home by lighting candles on their driveways at dawn.

Mr McCourt acknowledged it was likely some regional and community sub-branches would find it too difficult to put on their own services under COVID restrictions.

Premier Mark McGowan said he was pleased the driveway commemorations would continue alongside the Kings Park service.

"The RSL did a wonderful job last year ... many thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of West Australians participated," he told reporters.

"I thought that was a very meaningful thing."

The premier announced a $5.6 million package to support veterans ahead of Saturday's state election.

An increase in funding to the Anzac Day Trust Fund will be targeted towards offering greater support for veterans to transition into civilian life.

Labor is also promising to train up to 20 specialist support dogs veterans and first responders suffering post traumatic stress disorder.
