Thousands raised for family of tragic Scots dad Ross Taylor as heartbroken partner posts tribute

Thousands of pounds have been raised to help the family of Midlothian man Ross Taylor after his tragic death.

The local community was left devastated after police revealed a body was found during a search for the 30-year-old, who went missing on Sunday, March 31.

Despite setting just a £1000 target, more than £5100 has been raised within 48 hours to help support his family after his untimely death.

Ross lived with his partner Laura D'Arcy in Mayfield along with their six-month-old son Lewis, who is recovering from open heart surgery.

Lewis underwent surgery in January after being born with defects to his heart. He still needs regular checks in hospital as his recovery continues.

He also lived with two step-children, eight-year-old Liam and Jessica, six.

Police said his son's health problems have been "traumatic" for Ross, who left home with no cash or phone.

His disappearances sparked a major search operation - including specialist mountain rescue officers, search helicopters, a drone and search dogs.

After his death, a heartbroken Laura revealed that an engagement ring was found during a search of the house - confirming of course that she would have said yes.

In an emotional tribute on Facebook, she wrote: "Goodnight my amazing man. You were always there for the kids and I, I just wish I had been there for you when you needed me the most, I wish you just spoke to me and I would have helped you through anything!

"You were such an amazing Daddy! I told you this so many times. I have no words right now and I feel so empty, my soulmate is gone and my heart has shattered.

"During a search of the house an engagement ring was found. You did say you were waiting for the right time to ask me to marry you but we focused on Lewis’ health first. You know I would have said YES!

"I wanted nothing more than to become your wife. I will wear this everyday knowing that we would have had such a beautiful future.

"I now face the future without you by my side but I promise you Ross I will do as best as I can and bring up lewis so you can look down on him and be proud.

"So many people cared and loved you."

The GoFundMe page reads: "Raising funds for Ross Taylor’s family to ease any stress at this difficult time.

"Anything as little as £1 would be greatly appreciated.

"Lets show our community spirit and smash the £1000 target."
