Thousands of pounds have been raised to help a one-year-old beagle which was badly injured in a car accident after bolting off from its owners.
Owners launched a desperate search to find Bailey after he bolted away on his usual walk near Livingston in West Lothian.
He was returned to his owner Emma Lundy on Friday but he was badly injured after being struck by a car.
Experts at the Dick Vet facility in Edinburgh say he is in a critical condition.
Emma told us about her agonising wait for his condition to improve, thanking people for their "overwhelming" support.
One of Bailey's paws was badly broken and he suffered a leak on his lung.
The vet bills will be expensive and a crowdfunder set up to help his owners has already smashed through its target of £6,000.
However Emma was told on Sunday that the final bill could be even higher.
An update on the Bailey's Tale Facebook group said: "Unfortunately Bailey had a very bad night.
"He is in unbearable pain and the emergency orthopaedic team had to be called in. They were hoping to wait to do surgery Monday or Tuesday but they cannot wait so he is currently being prepped for surgery and going under at 12pm .
"The surgeons have informed Emma and Michael that this is up there with one of the worse breaks they have seen.
"His bone is in a million pieces and if they are able to save it, he will need steel plates, bolts and screws. They are afraid the floating bone may have caused nerve damage. Worse case an amputation but he won’t know more until he goes in."
It continued: "The drag wounds from the car on his back legs are also worse then they initially thought so they will have to look at them this morning also.
"They are quiet worried as he is vomiting a lot and very distressed.
"The good news is that the leak in his lung has sealed and are hoping that the surgery doesn’t cause it to rupture."
