PRACHIN BURI: About 30,000 cancer patients and relatives of teriminally-ill cancer patients queued up on the Prachin Buri-Ban Sang road in front of the house of Sangchai Haelerttrakul, better known as Mor Sang, in Muang district of this eastern province throughout the night from Saturday afternoon to receive free herbal medicines claimed to have the qualities to cure cancer.
The free medicines are distributed on the first Saturday and Sunday of every month.
The patients and relatives made a long queue of more than 2 kilometres along the road to in front of Mr Sangchai's house, opposite the office of the Bang Decha tambon administration organisation.
All recipients are required to first file for a daily record of their visits to get the herbal medicines to be shown to Mor Sang's volunteer workers along with doctor's certificates of illness, ID cards and domicile registration papers in order to get the medicines.
The large turnout of people for the anti-cancer medicines has spured the local economy. Shops selling food and drinks and motorcycle taxis have increased in numbers. All resorts in Ban Sang and Muang districts are fully booked although free accommodations are provided free of charges by more than 10 temples in the area.
While waiting for the medicines, many of the patients and relatives visited Wat Phikulwanaram to respect to the shrine of Chao Mae Takhian in the hope to get good numbers for today's lottery draw.
