Thousands queue for limited edition Cadbury Orange Twirls on Twitter

More than 5,000 people joined a queue on Twitter to try and get their hands on a limited edition orange flavoured Cadbury's Twirl.

The chocolate was an instant hit with fans when it was launched in late 2019, causing it to sell out in many stores across the UK within days.

Following the emphatic demand for the chocolate last year, Cadbury's official Twitter account launched a presale opportunity for chocolate lovers ahead of its return to stores in 2020.

More than 5,000 people were thrown into a virtual queue with the #TwirlOrangePresale tag starting to trend in the UK.

Some Twitter users were excited once they got their number:

"I've rejoined Twitter just for the #TwirlOrangePresale", Tweeted one person, with another adding: "My mum gave me 69p especially for this! #TwirlOrangePresale."

After the first few numbers were drawn, a live stream of the demand started on the Twitter page with a virtual bar showing the number of limited edition bars dwindling.

Within one hour, the bars had sold out.

Those who were lucky enough to get a number were greeted by Cadbury's with the following message:

"Twirl Oranges are in high demand right now. We're getting to you as quickly as possible with your code, but there might be a little wait. Don't worry, we're keeping your Twirl Orange safe."

However, the message soon changed after the pre-sale reached 5,000:
"Oh no. You just missed out. Keep your eyes peeled for the second release. This isn't the end of the #TwirlOrangePresale"

The next pre-sale is due to take place at 12pm on August 20, again, exclusively on Twitter.
