THOUSANDS of beer lovers packed into Maitland Gaol for the opening day of Bitter and Twisted on Saturday.
The annual boutique beer festival's first day had been sold-out for weeks and those lucky enough to have a ticket got to lap up perfect spring weather with temperatures of about 30 degrees.
More than 20 beer brewers and a handful of cider and wine producers ran pop-up bars dotted throughout the heritage-listed facility.
A mix of musical acts performed in the afternoon, including Newcastle band Kookshill, before headline act Boo Seeka rounded out the day.
The annual festival continues on Sunday with another big crowd expected.
Brisbane-based headliners Custard will wrap up the festival after The Hi-Boys, Burger Joint and local artist Lili Crane.
