Thousands offer namaz at Gandhi Maidan, in Bihar

PATNA: After two years of Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, Eid-ul-Zuha (Bakrid) was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm across the state on Sunday. Thousands of Muslims in new clothes thronged the mosques and Eidgahs to offer special prayers. The major congregation was witnessed at Patna Gandhi Maidan where the prayer was led by Maulana Mashood Ahmed Qadri Nadwi, the principal of Shamsul Hooda Madrassa.

CM Nitish Kumar greeted the people on the occasion. “Greetings and best wishes to the state and the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid). It is a festival of infinite faith and sacrifice at the behest of God. The ideal of this festival is to celebrate with mutual brotherhood and harmony,” he tweeted in Hindi.

Talha Hamid, who offered namaz with his family, said, “After a long time we gathered for mass prayer at Gandhi Maidan. I met several friends, who also came with their families.”

Sharique Anwar of Ashiana Colony said, “After prayer, we sacrificed a goat and equally shared its meat with family, friends and needy. After two years, we celebrated the festival without Covid-19 restrictions,” he said.

“I celebrated the festival with my friends and family and had home-made delicious food. We also donated food to the needy ones to spread joy and happiness of the festivities,” said Tabassum Ara of Alamganj.

ADG (headquarters) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said Eid prayers concluded peacefully across the state amid tight security arrangement. No untoward incident was reported, he said.

Eid-ul-Zuha was celebrated at Bagaha with gaiety. Muslims offered special namaz at 142 mosques under Bagaha subdivision. Security forces and a magistrate were deployed at each mosque and busy places.
