Thousands of traditional medicine capsules which claim to "treat coronavirus" found in Swords house

A search on a north Dublin home has discovered thousands of capsules which claim to treat symptoms of COVID-19.

The huge find of 6,178 capsules was made in Swords today in a joint operation between the garda drugs unit, Revenue and the HPRA.

It is believed that the capsules have a street value of around €10,000.

It was made after a search operation in Dublin Airport at the end of April found 7,200 Traditional Chinese Medicine capsules, and 10,000 non-compliant 'surgical face masks'.

She said: "On Friday, 8th May 2020, a search operation was conducted in the Swords area as part a joint operation between the Swords District Drugs Unit, Revenue and the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA).

"The search operation was conducted following a seizure at Dublin Airport on 29th April 2020, when Revenue intercepted falsely-declared packaging.

"The packaging contained approximately 7,200 Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) capsules, which claim to treat symptoms of Covid-19. Approximately 10,000 non-compliant ‘surgical face masks’ were also seized as part of the consignment.

"The follow-up search operation was conducted at a house in Swords with assistance from the HPRA. During the course of this search, a further 6,178 capsules were seized with an estimated street value of €10,000.

"An Garda Síochána continue to liaise with the HPRA during ongoing investigations in relation to this matter."
