Thousands of RTE viewers switch off Angela Scanlon chat show amid bombshell moment

Angela Scanlon’s RTE chat show continues to lose viewers as a further 13,000 people tuned out of watching the Saturday night show last weekend despite Una Healy's bombshell appearance.

The TV host’s Ask Me Anything on RTE One saw another major drop to its weekend ratings, compared to the previous week, which saw an average of 183,000 tuning in.

According to RTE, an average 170,800 watched the show on Saturday night, which saw Una Healy open up about the ‘throuple’ rumours she has been plagued with for months.

Una said on the show that she has been "haunted" by the picture of her in black bikini for the last few months.

The Saturdays singer said she has no idea where the word came from, adding that it was just her posting a picture with two people that she knows.

"I think I need to put this whole thing to bed right now and move on. The only throuple that I am in, is me, myself and I," she said.

“To be honest, it's been horrendous," she added on the show.

"I'm not going to lie. I've found it really horrible and I think that I’ve been used as clickbait and it's really affected me and it's really upset me and it's upset my family. I would just love it if I could just be left alone about that, leave that word behind and let me move on.”

She admitted that it was a good holiday and that she has since burned the black bikini that she was pictured in with David Haye and Sian Osbourne.

Meanwhile, the finale of Claire Byrne’s Ireland’s Smartest had 236,700 viewers on RTÉ One and RTÉ One +1 with a 27% share - a drop of 28,300 since the semi-final.

Electrical engineer Patrick Carthy won the title of Ireland’s Smartest after a gruelling 10 weeks on the game show.

The 31-year-old, from Longford, said: “I was delighted to win the series particularly against such excellent opponents.

"The format was fun to play even with the added pressure of the studio lights and cameras.

"There has been great support throughout the series from friends, neighbours, work colleagues and family, in particular my mother Mary."

The other two finalists were 56-year-old Brian Craythorne, a civil servant from Belfast and 44-year-old Niall Duddy, a maths teacher from Galway.

However, a spokesman for RTE made “no comment” when asked if Byrne's show has been commissioned for a second series.
