Thousands of Pringles tubes destroyed in M1 lorry fire

This morning a lorry carrying thousands of packets of Pringles caught fire on the M1, near Derby.

Derbyshire Live reports than an exit slip road at Junction 25 is still closed following the incident, which was reported just before 7am.

Highways officers say the driver was able to escape the cab and detach the trailer without being injured.

Traffic information website Inrix said thick smoke was “billowing across the road”.

The fire was eventually put out at around 9.20am.

Fire crews were called to recover the vehicle and a major clean-up operation involving a digger got underway at around 10.45am.

It is understood that the clear-up work is still in progress.

Traffic is coping well but drivers are still being urged to avoid the area if possible.
