Thousands of pounds of drugs seized from city centre property

Thousands of pounds worth of drugs have been taken off the streets as police swooped on a city centre property.

A man, 20, and a woman, 23, were arrested for drug supply offences and money laundering at an address on Rumford Street yesterday (Wednesday).

The raid is the latest in an operation targeting gangs operating in South Sefton.

Officers seized huge amounts of heroin and crack cocaine, along with wads of cash believed to have been the proceeds of crime.

Drugs seized vary from high purity uncut drugs to street level deal ready quantities and believed to be worth tens of thousands of pounds.

The man and woman arrested have now been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

Community Policing Inspector Chris Taylor said: “Another positive result for Operation Pelican means more good news for those in South Sefton, as we continue to target those we suspect are spreading the misery of drugs in the community.

"Key to this success is often the information from those people and communities most affected, so if you have any information please come forward.”

If you have any information about suspected drug dealing in your area, please contact @MerPolCC on Twitter or call 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Always call 999 if a crime is in progress.
