Some 2500 post offices could close unless ministers intervene, MPs will be told today.
About 1000 branches are listed as shut, with two in three closures triggered by a sub-postmaster quitting.
And 22 per cent of sub-postmasters plan on closing or downsizing in the next year, according to a survey of National Federation of Sub-Postmasters members – leaving 2500 post offices at risk.

Revenue received by the network of post offices for providing Government services plunged from £576million in 2004-5 to just £99million in 2017-18 as customers moved online.
In a submission to the business select committee inquiry, the NFSP will say: “The viability of sub-post offices and the morale of sub-postmasters has been eroded to the extent that the network’s resilience is extremely limited.
“We believe a tipping point has been passed and the consequences of this are now being realized.
“The closure of 2500 post offices in a year would be a catastrophic loss to communities.”

A Business Department spokesman said: “With over 11,500 branches in the UK, the Government recognises how vital post office services are.
“That is why we have provided over £2billion of investment in the network since 2010.”
●The Royal Mail is launching the first parcel postboxes across the UK.
They enable people to post pre-paid parcels in the same way as letters.
Locations will include Aberdeen and Cardiff.
