Thousands of people enjoy heartwarming video of Dalbeattie old folk singing We'll Meet Again

A video of care home residents having a sing-song has gone down a storm online.

More than 17,000 people have so far logged on to enjoy watching the old folk at Alma McFadyen Care Centre in Dalbeattie singing along to the Vera Lynn classic We’ll Meet Again.

Manager Leanna Mitchell said: “The residents loved doing it and they’ve all been asking when are we doing it again.

“We thought we’d do it to keep the spirits up and they all joined in. Some of them were quite emotional and even some of the staff were emotional.

“We’ve had a great response from the families. One of the residents’ sisters e-mailed to say she had watched it and she’s in Australia.”

With visiting at the home suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Facebook page is one of the few ways family and friends are able to maintain contact with their loved ones.

Leanna added: “It’s the only way we have of being in touch with their families. We set the page up before the coronavirus situation and it has been a god send.

“Some of them have been signing up to Facebook just for this page.

“We did something similar for Mother’s Day with the residents holding up messages they had written and it was amazing as well.

“We just need to think of what we’re going to do next!”

The residents also had a tasty treat last weekend when the staff from The Chip Shop delivered their tea.
