Thousands of North Lanarkshire residents charged two days early in council tax blunder

Thousands of North Lanarkshire council tax payers have been charged two days early following an administrative error.

North Lanarkshire Council has apologised after taking April council tax payments from 13,000 residents two days prior to the normal payment date.

The council admitted the error and has pledged to reimburse any bank changes caused by the mistake.

A council spokesperson said: "An administrative error meant that some residents' council tax direct debits were taken two days early.

"We apologise for this error. If anyone affected incurred bank charges these will be reimbursed by the council. If this is the case, people should get in touch with us by emailing revenue@northlan.gov.uk or by phoning 01698 403210 and selecting option 2."
