Retail: Asda has announced plans to create more than 7,500 jobs in the UK next year through new store openings, expansion of its home shopping service and its recent takeover of Danish supermarket Netto in the UK. More than 3,500 jobs will be created in new stores, 2,400 at the home shopping service, 100 jobs in new pharmacies and 1,500 through doubling staff at the Netto stores. The supermarket is also set to increase the number of fully-qualified pharmacists it employs by around 10%, creating 32 new jobs, reports the Guardian.
Insurance: Saga Goup, the provider of insurance, holidays and healthcare to over-50s, plans to create up to 800 new jobs with a new call centre in Hastings. The majority of the jobs will be for agents and managers in contact centre roles such as claims, sales and customer service, according to Post Online. Positions will also be created in HR, IT, property management, cleaning and catering. Recruitment is already underway for the new call centre, which will open in the new year, initially for up to 150 staff.

Market research: A US market research firm will create 50 new jobs in Galway in Ireland, reports RTÉ News. Industrial Info Resources carries out in-depth market research on the industrial processing, heavy manufacturing and energy-related industries worldwide. The new jobs will be in research, sales, administration and management.
Adult careers event: Cardiff's City Hall will host a careers exhibition today and tomorrow offering the chance to meet employers as well as general career guidance. Exhibitors attending Jobserve Live! include Care UK Homecare Services, Careers Wales and insurance giant Admiral, which is recruiting for its graduate training scheme. Entrance is free and the event takes place between 10am and 4pm on both days, reports the Mirror.
Manufacturing: Snack brand Ryvita will create 38 new jobs in Poole due to a restructuring of the company. A multi-million pound programme to turn an old warehouse next to the existing Ryvita factory in Poole into a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility will be completed by next spring, according to FoodManufacture.co.uk.
