Thousands of hospitality roles make the headlines — in the week 15/08/10

Hospitality: Thousands of jobs will be created when 35 planned new hotels open in the next three years, reported The Independent. Holiday Inn firm Intercontinental Hotels Group is looking to fill 3,000 new jobs in locations across the UK, including vacancies for hotel porters, catering assistants, waiters and bar staff.

Online: A money saving website, www.shoppingvouchers.co.uk, has announced plans to create 15 new jobs in the next seven months, according to the Reading Post. The site is offering a range of job opportunities for graduates and non-graduates including roles within the marketing and sales team. The Berkshire-based company is also looking for personal assistants, web developers and administration staff.

Healthcare: A growing demand for health workers in parts of Yorkshire has led to a venture which will create 200 new jobs, says business website for the region TheBusinessDesk.com. Care provider Prestige Nursing is setting up a Wakefield-based franchise to provide nursing and home-based care across West and South Yorkshire. The company is currently recruiting experienced and qualified staff, including healthcare assistants.

Telecoms: BT is considering increasing the number of apprenticeship places it offers after an unprecedented demand for the scheme, according to the Guardian. This week it emerged the company had nearly 24,000 applications for the 221 apprenticeships available this year, which come with an annual salary of £11,000 to £14,000. The firm is said to be considering taking advantage of this demand, especially in light of its plans to roll out faster broadband across the UK.

Overseas: Hotel chain Premier Inn has seen an 'overwelming' response from its UK staff wishing to relocate to a new branch in India. Recruitment industry website recruiter.co.uk says the new hotel in Delhi is set to create 50 new jobs initially, with roles from management level to team member being advertised in September.

Distribution: Swindon is booming this week. First up, a planned £77.4m B&Q warehouse in Swindon will mean 550 new jobs for the area, according to the BBC. The borough council has approved plans to build the distribution centre and it is due to be fully operational by January 2012.

Restaurant: And if your work preferences lean more towards Masterchef than Changing Rooms, then there's something for you too. A new restaurant has started its search for 50 new employees ahead of opening its door to customers in September, says the Swindon Advertiser. Bar, waiting and kitchen staff are being recruited to the new branch of the Harvester chain in the town.
