Thousands of homes were left without power this morning - this is why

Thousands of homes were affected by power cuts this morning (Monday, April 1).

Western Power Distribution (WPD) said 1,640 customers were affected in Arnold and Mapperley due to an underground cable fault around 4.20am.

Power was fully restored within 41 minutes, said a WPD spokeswoman.

The issue was resolved by re-routing the supply - and the company will investigate the issue today, Monday.

WPD also said that, at around 9.23am, 3,148 properties in the Bilborough area were without power.

Half of those - 1,574 - were restored within two minutes. And the remaining 1,574 were restored by 10.38am.

This was the result of an underground cable fault - and power was restored by re-routing the supply.

Power workers will be investigating the cause of the fault today.
