Thousands of homes left without electricity in North Tyneside after major power cut

Thousands of families in North Tyneside have been left in the dark after a major power cut.

Northern Powergrid has confirmed that almost 4,000 homes have had their electricity cut off.

The power cut is currently affecting homes in the NE25, NE26, NE27 and NE29 postcode area and was reported at around 10pm on Wednesday.

According to the Northern Powergrid website, there has been an "unexpected problem with the cables or equipment" that serve the North Tyneside area.

In total, around 3,810 homes are experiencing the power cut, according to the Northern Powergrid website.

Engineers are working on restoring electricity with an estimate that power should be returned by around 11.45pm.

Around 250 homes in the NE26 postcode area may have to wait until 1.15am for electricity to be restored however.
