More than 7000 Tesla electric vehicles have been recalled in Australia due to a software fault that could injure drivers.
Australia's federal transport department issued the recall over the weekend, warning that all 2025 variants of the Tesla Model Y were subject to an issue affecting the driver's side automatic window and its safety system.
The problem has been detected in 7301 Tesla vehicles sold in Australia.
"Due to a software issue, the driver's side window's automatic protection system may not operate as intended and result in the window closing with excessive force on any obstruction, such as a body part," the department said in a statement.
"If a body part is in the window space when the driver's side window is closing, it can increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant."
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Tesla, although the issue can be rectified by installing an over-the-air software update issued by the company.
The latest recall mirrors a similar issue detected in the US in 2022 that led to a recall of almost 1.1 million Tesla vehicles, including Model 3 and Model S vehicles.
In that recall, America's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted that the vehicles' automatic windows "may not react correctly after detecting an obstruction".
The Australian recall is the largest issued for the US car maker this year after 297 Model Y and Model 3 vehicles were recalled due to a power steering issue in March.
