Thousands of Dublin residents left without water in major outage

A large part of north Dublin has been left without water due to a major outage.

A burst water main has resulted in supply disruptions to residents in Rush, Lusk, Loughshinny, Donabate, Lissenhall, Malahide Road, Estuary Road, Swords, Main Street, Seatown Park, Skerries, Balbriggan and surrounding areas in Dublin.

Irish Water is currently working to restore the water supply and works are estimated to take place until 6pm tonight. A spokesman for the company said: "We recommend that you allow 2-3 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return."

Crews are currently in the affected areas working to restore water as soon as possible for those affected. The burst may cause some customers to experience reduced pressure, as well as water outages.

Anyone in the local areas affected by the shortage is directed to use the following reference number to see updates: FIN00055694. Speaking about the repair works Tselopile Tlou, a water engineer from Irish Water, said: "The repairs are being conducted as quickly as possible to minimise disruption to the community and restore water for all customers.

"We understand the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate their patience as we work to repair the burst and return the water supply."

There are reports that locals schools and creches may be forced to close early due to the water outage. You can find all the latest updates on the Irish Water website.

Last month local coffee shops and creches in south Dublin were forced to close due to a major outage caused by a burst water main.
