Thousands of children's books have been hidden around Wales and are waiting to be found

A new summer activity scheme has come to Wales providing fun and great resources for children this summer holidays, including 6,000 hidden books and activity packs.

Play Wales has launched their Summer of Play campaign which involves a treasure hunt for books in activity packs that are scattered all across Wales.

The packs include chalk, postcards, and two children's books that were created by children in Wales telling the story of 'Fun in the dungeon' and 'Fun in the garden'.

Hidden across Wales in environmentally friendly bags, you can find clues for the locations of these packs on the Play Wales Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts.

Melissa Evans, a mother from Wrexham said: “We found some treasure! My boys loved it and had great fun playing hop-scotch with the chalk.”

The packs are not the only activity available this summer with Play Wales transforming bus stops into imaginary worlds for children, including the bus stop on Bute Street in Cardiff.

The normally plain bus stop now features a spot the difference and a pair of fairy wings allowing children to enjoy and explore with their imagination this summer.

Rhys Richards, a dad from Rhondda said: “I’m really glad we saw this today...my son's imagination ran wild as he played with the gnomes and fairies in the bus stop – not something you say every day!”

Play Wales is a national charity for children's play in Wales, upholding children's right to play .

Mike Greenaway, Director of Play Wales said: "Children and teenagers still want and need the chance and freedom to play. As a society, in a time of crisis, we need more than ever, to recognise and value that every child has a right to play."

You can find further information and clues on the Play Wales social media sites.
