Thousands of cantaloupes recalled across US upgraded to Class I over deadly salmonella concerns

  • Ayco Farms Inc. has recalled 8,302 cartons of cantaloupe due to potential salmonella contamination.
  • The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) elevated the recall to a Class I, signifying the highest risk level where consumption could lead to severe health consequences or death.
  • The affected cantaloupes were distributed to retailers across four states: California, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.
  • Consumers are urged to immediately dispose of any potentially contaminated fruit and disinfect any surfaces it may have touched, despite no illnesses being reported to date.
  • This recall is the latest in a series of product recalls, following cream cheese due to listeria and Xanax over dissolution specifications.
