Thousands of Aldi shoppers stuck in queue for air fryers £140 cheaper than original

With Glastonbury Festival tickets selling out in one hour flat, many music fans were left disappointed today after being unable to access the packed booking page. Of course, there's been another queue this morning, and competition proved to be just as fierce.

In keeping with the ongoing craze for energy-saving air fryers, Aldi has now launched its very own Ninja Dual Air Fryer dupe, for £140 less than the coveted sell-out item.

The £89.99 air fryer will be available to buy in-store from Sunday, November 13th, but was made available to buy online from 8 am this morning (Sunday, November 6th). Unfortunately, many eager shoppers rising early to be in with a chance were left in despair after finding themselves stuck in a queue of thousands of people.

Some have likened the competitive queue to the one for Glastonbury (aliswindell90/Twitter)

Many queuers have taken to Twitter to share their experiences, having been left utterly aghast by just how long they'd been expected to wait.

One dedicated shopper - who found herself number 195533 in the queue - gasped: "When you see #airfryer trending because of ridiculously long queues to buy the Aldi version…. Geez, I’ve seen shorter queues to buy gig tickets. This county loves a good queue."

Another woman, who was number 121191 in the queue, lamented: "All you cool kids trying to get Glastonbury tickets this morning and struggling with website crashes, whilst I’ve hit peak mid-30s, online since 8 am to try and get an air fryer that went on sale today in Aldi and which sold out in minutes. This is my life now!"

After eventually getting on the Aldi website, this Mirror reporter found there was no longer an option to pop the air fryer in the basket, with the popular cooking aid having been long snapped up. Many shoppers weren't happy at all at having reached the front of the queue only to leave empty-handed and left scathing one-star reviews.

One person wrote: "[I waited for] 2 hrs 53 mins in the queue to purchase fresh air. Not good enough!"

Another commented: "Got up at 7 am on a Sunday and waited patiently for click to buy button only to be placed position 32291 in the queue by 8:30 am! By the time I got there guess what? All sold out!"

According to the Aldi website, the Ambiano Dual Basket Air Fryer has a 4L per basket capacity and can be used to cook two separate foods simultaneously.

The description reads: "Make room for plenty of delicious treats with this Ambiano Dual Basket Air Fryer. You'll have plenty of space to cook all of your favourite foods, ideal for frying, baking, grilling, roasting, and even dehydrating, this dual air fryer has 2 heating elements and motors designed to cook two different foods simultaneously.

"This must-have kitchen appliance has 7 pre-set programs plus a reheat, defrost and a keep warm function. With 2 x 4L (approx.) basket capacity, you can whip up a feast for the family in no time."

An Aldi spokesperson said: “The demand for our Specialbuys was extremely high this morning and as a result customers may have been held in a queue to enter the website. This was to improve customer experience on the website when they entered and made their purchase.”
