Thousands line up to adopt baby girl found in plastic bag on side of road

Thousands of people from around the world have reached to ask about adopting a baby girl who found abandoned in a plastic bag in a wooded area in the US.

The infant girl was covered with blood and with her umbilical cord attached when a neighbour heard of her crying and found her on the side of a road in Georgia.

Bodycam footage from a police officer, which has since gone viral, shows the moment of the rescue as he said: "Oh I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Oh look at you sweetheart. Look how precious you are."

Officers from the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office identified the baby as Caucasian, possibly Hispanic, and temporarily named her 'India'.

Sheriff Freeman later said in a police conference: "It was obvious that the baby was a newborn, we believe [it's] within hours from our discovery that the baby had been born.

"The baby was taken into a local area hospital and we're surprised that the baby is in good condition."

Police released the footage and made a public appeal for information on the baby's mother.

Since then, thousands of people have come forward and called the Sheriff's Office to ask about baby India's condition and to adopt the baby girl.

They have received inquiries from most of the states in the US, Canada, the UK, Spain, France and also South Africa and Ethiopia.

The Forysth County Sheriff's Office made a thank-you post on Facebook to people who have called and sent messages asking about baby India.

The post read: "We would like to say THANK YOU to all of the people who have called and sent messages inquiring about Baby India.

"We have been inundated with love from around the world and we are in absolute awe!

"At this time we have no new information to share regarding Baby India."

It is said the baby is doing well and remains in the care of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.

'Brooke Barker Heffington' said: "God's got this baby girl! Thanks you to our wonderful Forsyth County officers."

'Sarah Sullivan' commented: "Please keep us posted. I pray that India finds a loving Forever Home and that the family who found her & the officers who rescued her get visitation rights."
