Thousands left without water after burst pipe

A burst pipe has left thousands of Wirral residents without water for hours.

Engineers are currently on site at Neston Road, near Smithy Hill, to repair the problem and have warned water may be completely turned off.

United Utilities said those living in CH63 and CH64 postcodes may have "no water" or "water coming out of the tap as a trickle" at about 3.40am today.

At 9.25am it said engineers arrived to work on the issue and traffic management will be put in place to allow the repairs to be carried out safely.

It said: "So no more water is wasted and we can sort out repairing the leak, our team may need to turn off the water supply in the area just for a short time, whilst the pipe is fixed.

"Due to the location of the burst main on Neston Road near Smithy Hill repairs may take a little longer to fix.

"We have arranged for traffic management to be put in place to allow our engineers to carry out the repair safely.

"We’re sorry for the continued disruption and hope to have your water supply back to normal as soon as we can."
