Thousands have been left without power across the country as "unseasonable" winds lash Ireland.

The west, northwest and south have all been badly hit with areas in Mayo, Leitrim, Galway and Cork affected by faults.

ESB Networks say they are working to repair faults as quickly as possible.

Over 1,400 homes and businesses in Carrick-on-Shannon and surrounding areas in Leitrim have been left without power as have 113 customers in Mohill.

ESB Networks' website say they hope to return power by 2pm and 12.45pm to these areas respectively.

In Co Mayo, 14 customers are affected by an outage in Swinford. ESB hope to restore power by 2.15pm.

A further 77 homes and businesses have been hit by a fault at Bellacorick, near Crossmolina.

And in Galway, there is a major outage in Clifden, with 372 customers currently without power.

The ESB say they hope to restore power here by 12pm.

In Cork, over a thousand households, businesses and farms are without power due to a fault at Togher.

The ESB hope to reconnect this area by 11.30pm.
