Thousands left without power after ESB fault across Portmarnock and Malahide, North Dublin

Thousands of people have been left without power after a big fault in North Dublin.

Over 2,000 homes have gone lights out with ESB working hard to restore the power as soon as possible.

The households affected are all in the Malahide area with electricity expected to be restored by 7.30pm.

ESB said: "We apologise for the loss of supply. We are currently working to repair a fault affecting your premises and will restore power as quickly as possible."

The fault comes as status yellow winds batter Dublin with many areas being pelted with heavy rain.

Giving a forecast for tonight Met Eireann said: "It will continue very windy early tonight with strong and gusty southerly winds, but winds will decrease light to moderate overnight.

"Further outbreaks of rain early tonight also but the rain will quickly clear northwards, with just the odd shower overnight. Overnight lows of 6 degrees."
