Thousands flock to Balloch for biggest ever Kiltwalk, raising £3.5m for charity

A crowd of 13,000 hardy souls donned their walking boots and kilts on Sunday as they descended on Balloch for the biggest ever Kiltwalk.

More than £3.5million was raised for a range of charities and organisations with many walkers matching their kilts with a t-shirt highlighting their chosen good cause.

The 23-mile journey kicked off from Glasgow Green with 6500 participants making their way through Dumbarton and Alexandria before finishing in Balloch.

Later, 3700 began a 15-mile Big Stroll and 2800 completed the six-mile Wee Wander.

Big names including Judy Murray, Jackie Bird, actor Tom Urie and Sean Batty were among the thousands to take part.

The Hunter Foundation run by billionaire philanthropist Sir
Tom Hunter, added an extra 40 percent to the funds raised.

Dumbarton and District Pipe Band were at the ready to proudly sponsor the event in Levengrove Park- where the beginning of the Wee Wander began.

The band played for each section of walkers leaving from the park and later performed in Renton and Balloch to motivate the walkers to the finish line.

The Kiltwalk, sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland, is Scotland’s fastest growing charity event.
