Thousands back campaign to put Harry Maguire riding inflatatble unicorn on £50 note

Thousands have backed a petition to get a picture of Harry Maguire riding a unicorn on the new £50 note.

The currency is set for a redesign with a number of historical and famous figures being considered to be the face of it.

But one Twitter user has proposed that Maguire, a hero of England's fairytale run to the World Cup semi-finals this summer, should be used instead.

"The Bank of England are redesigning the £50 following the successful redesign of the £5, £10, and £20 notes," the petition reads.

"None of these notes so far have featured a World Cup semi finalist floating on a mythical creature, and in the interests of football's attempts to come home, who would be more appropriate to feature than Harry Maguire riding an inflatable unicorn?"

The picture of Maguire on the inflatable was taken during the tournament in Russia and proved extremely popular with fans.

And its popularity has continued back home with over 14,000 people and counting signing the petition.

Three Lions teammate Kyle Walker wasn't slow to get in on the act either quickly throwing his support behind the campaign.

The Manchester City full-back tweeted a doctored image of a £5 note with the message: "Make it happen England! I’ll be happy on a fiver. Plus a bigger amount needs a bigger head..."

"Can't even make the new fiver!," Maguire responded.
